Western Springs

The Village of Western Springs, named after a local mineral spring that has since dried up, is an affluent community in southwestern Cook County.

Western Springs’ downtown is located along Wolf Road and also flanks both sides of the BNSF Metra line for several blocks. The downtown is known for some establishments that have a regional draw: Casey’s Market (butcher), Kirshbaum Bakery, the Michelin-rated Vie restaurant and possibly most important, the nationally recognized Theatre of Western Springs. The Village also has an iconic historic water tower anchoring its town center. Don’t forget to visit the open air French Market downtown and shop for fresh produce, meats, and cheese every Thursday in the summer.

The Village of Western Springs is within elementary school districts 101 and 106 and Lyons Township high school district 204. The original neighborhoods of Western Springs (Old Town, Old Town South, Field Park, Forest Hills) are within elementary school district 101, made up of Field Park, Forest Hills, and Laidlaw elementary schools and the McClure Junior High. The newer portions of town are serviced by elementary school district 106 (La Grange Highlands Elementary and La Grange Highlands Middle School).

Lyons Township high school district 204 serves Western Springs and La Grange as well as several adjacent villages. The high school campus is divided into a south Western Springs campus for grades 9-10 and a north La Grange campus for grades 11-12.

An express train to Chicago is only 20 minutes from the Western Springs Metra station. Quickly accessible from I-290, I-55 and I-294, Western Springs offers fast and convenient pathways to the Chicago Loop, the better part of suburban Chicago, and both Midway (20 min) and O’Hare (20 min) airports.

While Western Springs, like many neighboring towns, has undergone a transformation over the last two decades with the teardown of older homes making way for newer ones. However, many mature older homes remain and have retained their value while maintaining the charm and variety of the neighborhood.
