Glen Ellyn

Known as the “Village of Volunteers”, this suburb is 25 miles west of Chicago and is full of civic pride. Residents dedicate time to local government committees and family events.

Lake Ellyn plays a large part in the family events in Glen Ellyn. In addition to many events that are held at the lake, one of those events is the cardboad boat races at the lake. Glen Ellyn has 31 parks that are filled with families enjoying the beauty of the suburb. There is also a golf course and The Indian Prairie bicycle trail bisects the village. There is always something happening in Glen Ellyn. For example, in mid-May there is the Annual Taste of Glen Ellyn. This is a four day and night event of great food, and excellent music.

There are more than 50 stores downtown and you can easily find the perfect gift for that someone special in your life. After shopping, take in a meal at one of the 22 restaurants that are downtown. There are many flavors and tastes, from Bistro Monet to Asian Pearl.

Many residents work in education–at local schools or in the community college in town, The College of Du Page. This Junior College is known as one of the best in the United States. Its most famous alumni are the comedy legend John Belushi and his brother the actor James Belushi.

Glen Ellyn’s primary schools are part of Glen Ellyn School District 41 and Community Consolidated School District 89. Its high schools are a part of Glenbard Township High School District 87: Glenbard West High School and Glenbard South High School.

Residents that don’t work close to home hop the commuter train to the loop. It is a 37-minute train ride to downtown Chicago.
